Great singletrack at Coed Llandegla

Last weekend as I said in an earlier post we went to visit some friends in Manchester. One of the great things about living in Manchester is that it is only about 40 minutes drive from North Wales and some of the best single track in Britain!
We headed over to
Llandegla bright and early on the Saturday morning which was a glorious day. We arrived there about 10.30am which was just right as it was just starting to warm up, although the car parks were almost full! After paying the sultry £2.50 for all day parking we were set. We had 2 bikes in the back of the alfa so they were completely disassembled and had to be put back together but once that was done we were off.
There are 3 main tracks there, a blue run, a red run and a black run. The girls went off on the red run which was daunting enough whilst we kamakazied our way down the black run. After nearly coming off numerous time I realised the rebound on my recon shocks was set to 'slow' which was meant it was much more difficult to clear bumps as it was lurching over them as opposed to getting any decent air. After a quick adjustment though I was getting on much better and really started to enjoy it.
The black run is definitely rated that way for a reason though as there are drop offs coming at you completely unexpected and the tracks are all very fast with lots of rocks and roots to navigate your way around! One thing that I found interesting was that I had gone off spds, although the guy I had gone with was using them and swore by them. After using them on my road bike for a bit recently I think I may have to invest in some to stick on the RockHopper as the main difficulty I was having was to try to keep my feet on the pedals mid air!
