Race Training: 51 mile route around the New Forest

Comments (3)

Well, it has come to that point where I have completed my final race training: a 50 mile route which took me up to the top of the new forest and then down through it and home.

The route, roughly was:
Bournemouth
Ferndown
Three Legged Cross
Verwood
Alderholt
Fordingbridge
Lyndhurst
Christchurch
Bournemouth

It was difficult and I found it quite hard to keep focused when cycling alone for nearly 4 hours, but although I am aching today I am extremely glad that I have done it and think it has put me in a good position for the race on Sunday! My pace was averaging about 14 miles / hour which if I can sustain it will see me coming in about 4 hours 40 for the full 66 miles. I wasn't pushing overly hard either and did have a few stops to take in the scenery (and regain breath ;) )

Now it's all about rest, rest, rest to let my body recover and be in top form for the race! Anyone else doing it - see you Sunday!

Ride Time: 3 hours 40 minutes
Ride Distance: 82km
Ride difficulty: Medium
