Winstanley bike review - 0 out of 10

First time I've posted for a while as it's the first time something has really got to me!

I went to order a bike on the cyclescheme through Winstanley bikes. I found a bargain on their website, so after phone calls and emails to them arranged to get a quotation in order to get a quotation (after deciding on them above other suppliers) all seemed well and the quotation arrived promptly a couple of days later. I thought it would be wise to reserve the bike so it wasn't sold elsewhere so I paid a £50 deposit on it as well which went through fine.

I sent the quotation off and went through the whole cyclescheme process (which takes a good few weeks) then finally the day came when the voucher arrived. Overjoyed I gave them one last call to confirm what they needed me to sign and where to send the voucher to to which I got the reply that the bike was out of stock. I didn't realise it at the time but this then means that I am stuck in a position where I have a voucher for a specific amount, for a specific shop, but no bike to buy! I called cyclescheme and apparently they are reluctant to perform a refund (as they have the money for the voucher) and with no comparable bike at the shop I am in a bit of a situation!

I don't normally like to 'flame' shops, but incompetence like this is beyond me in this day and age?!! How they didn't realise the bike wasn't in stock i) when they wrote out the quotation for it ii) when they took the deposit for it is beyond me. Another laughable matter was the fact that apparently they emailed me to inform me but they spelt the email address wrongly (which they knew about?!) so I was never informed. Compounding all of this is their infuriating phone system which only ever even rings 1 out of every 10 attempts - the rest give a strange message about network connection (when calling a landline number?)

Let this be a lesson to everyone doing the cyclescheme - it's not all plain sailing and always best to get the bike from your local bike shop !
